Art Migration
In October, seven of the giant steel sculptures that have towered over American Steel Studios for the last several years have been packed up for their journey to their new home in South America. The figures will become part of an emerging rain forest preserve in Brazil, at which replanting has been underway for three decades.
What does our Living Wall mean for West Oakland?
Since their conception, living walls, vertical gardens, and green roofs have grown in popularity. Sprouting up on city buildings, in homes, museums, hotels, and now on our building in the industrial center of West Oakland, the development of new techniques and creative reuse of materials is making it possible to grow gardens almost anywhere.

Writing West Oakland’s Next Chapter
Lynette McElhaney, our new City Councilwoman for Oakland District 3, opened her first community meeting with strong promises of change despite the many challenges she faces as part of City Hall’s freshman class. An eloquent speaker, she stressed that hope hangs on participation.
Cleaning up West Oakland
US Military veterans and local artists came together to clean up over 2,000 lbs of trash in West Oakland as part the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service.
