Founder Vlad Levitansky and chef Charles Barksdale announce the opening of 10th & Wood, a casual neighborhood breakfast and lunch café specializing in gourmet sandwiches and burgers in a laid-back setting. Part restaurant and part community meeting spot, 10th & Wood has a to-go counter as well as seating at an outside patio or inside the small, stylish dining area.
The café is the brainchild of Levitansky, a professional clown and Cirque du Soleil alumus who, while traveling with the circus for 15 years, realized he missed a sense of community. Or, as his teacher put it, “no roots, no fruits.” He decided to combine his love of food and his need for roots by opening a hyper-local neighborhood sandwich spot in his West Oakland neighborhood.
With the help of Barksdale, who trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Chicago and grew up two blocks from 10th & Wood, he has developed a menu of gourmet burgers and sandwiches – including their signature part Bahn Mi and part Po’Boy sandwich they playfully call a “Po’Mi” – at affordable prices.
The intention, says Levitanksy, is to create a neighborhood meeting place.
10th & Wood celebrates its soft opening on Monday, July 8, 2013, and will announce a Grand Opening celebration later this month after getting community feedback.
