A new show in March brings the first all female group of artists to Blackball Universe Gallery for “Cherry Blossoms in Exile.” The exhibit features the abstract works of Momoko Sudo, Tomo Kamiya and Ashley Adams, blending organic shapes and straight lines to explore themes of nature and of industry.

Momoko Sudo grew up in Hokkaido, Japan and moved to the United States in 1992. She inspires the imagination through creating appealing high art that still sits well as a decorative piece in the home and office. Momoko specializes in abstract art “because [she] enjoy[s] its multiplicity in interpretations and unlimited freedom of expressions.” She works with resin to create recycled art pieces, as well as painting and drawing illusions with symmetry that evokes an almost meditative state in her LineScaping designs.

Ashley Adams is a SF Bay Area native who calls upon the spirit of the outdoors to “make her viewers look at nature through a different perspective.” Finding the unexpected in our natural environment, Ashley explores the beauty of life through photography. She has been featured in a variety of publications, including Photo Induced and Arts Acts.

Tomo Kamiya is a recent graduate of the Pasadena Art Center College of Design with a B.F.A. in Illustration, but has been creating and developing her style for years. Originally from Japan, Kamiya grew up partly in Tokyo and partly in the smaller city of Sendai. Using these opposite environments for inspiration, her art conveys the split nature and duality of life.

“Cherry Blossoms in Exile” will be on display from March 1-30, with regular Saturday hours from 12-4pm.
