Karen Cusoilto, Founder and Director of American Steel Studios, has worked tirelessly for years bringing together, encouraging, inspiring, and supporting local artists and helping ideas grow into viable businesses. Her art and her leadership have brought together some of the greatest minds and most talented individuals from around the world under our six acre roof. We are proud to stand with her tonight as her creation, and the collective energies, dreams, and innovations in art and industry are recognized for their contribution to Oakland and its ever growing legacy as a world leader in the arts. The Oakland Indie Awards is a unique opportunity to sample culinary delights from local eateries, test drive fashions from local studios, and experience locally built art and innovations! We are thrilled once again to be nominated at this prestigious event. Check out a sampling of some of the art that will be on display:

Nannette Harris will exhibit some of her powerful and dimensional celebrity portraits, and Esti Sosknik will showcase a few of her vibrant and energetic paintings.

Andy Reuter will be driving his artwork to the event! Stop by to see his latest and greatest customized motorcycle!

We will be also exhibiting sculpture by Karen Cusolito, and an interactive and informative display by AmSteel’s resident Naturopath, Dr. Lupin DeMuth. We will also have photography, jewelry and one-of-a-kind fashion and custom built furniture on display!

So Much Fun at Maker Faire!

Maker Faire has blasted off and we re THRILLED to once again be here, showing off not only the fabulous talent at our own booth, but also to see our tenants and their art spread throughout the Faire. Come check us out, and see all there is to discover.

makerfaireposterMaker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth – a family-friendly festival of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. This fantastic event is worth exploring, to inspire and delight, amazing to behold. Maker faire is a joy to be part of!

Orion Fredericks Gilly

Part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new, Maker Faire is an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. All of these “makers” come to Maker Faire to show what they have made and to share what they have learned.

The launch of Maker Faire in the Bay Area in 2006 demonstrated the popularity of making and interest among legions of aspiring makers to participate in hands-on activities and learn new skills at the event. A record 195,000 people attended the two flagship Maker Faires in the Bay Area and New York in 2013, with 44% of attendees first timers at the Bay Area event, and 61% in New York. A family event, 50% attend the event with children. Also in 2013, 98 independently-produced Mini and Featured Maker Faires occurred around the world, including Tokyo, Rome, Santiago, and Oslo.

Maker Faire is primarily designed to be forward-looking, showcasing makers who are exploring new forms and new technologies. But it’s not just for the novel in technical fields; Maker Faire features innovation and experimentation across the spectrum of science, engineering, art, performance and craft.

Maker Faire is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. It’s a venue for makers to show examples of their work and interact with others about it. Many makers say they have no other place to share what they do. DIY (Do-It-Yourself) is often invisible in our communities, taking place in shops, garages and on kitchen tables. It’s typically out of the spotlight of traditional art or science or craft events. Maker Faire makes visible these projects and ideas that we don’t encounter every day.

Maker Faire is brought to you by Maker Media. Maker Media publishes MAKE magazine, produces Maker Faire, and offers DIY electronics, tools, kits, and books through its online and pop-up Maker Shed stores. For more information visit Maker Faire’s Website.

Wild & Scenic Film Festival today!!

wildandscenicWhat is the Wild and Scenic Film Festival?
The Wild & Scenic Film Festival was started in 2003 by the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL, pronounced ‘circle’), a watershed advocacy group based in the Sierra foothills of Northern California. The festival’s namesake is in celebration of achieving Wild & Scenic status on 39 miles of the South Yuba River in 1999. The festival celebrates its annual event in Nevada City, CA each winter featuring over 100 award-winning films.

Once the curtain closes in Nevada City, the 4-day film festival gets packaged up into a one-night festival which visits over 100 communities nationwide and helps local communities rally to action and local non-profits raise funds for their programs. The films illustrate not only the challenges facing our planet but the work communities are doing to protect the environment and the places we love.

We can’t wait to see you there!  Last chance to buy your tickets right now!

Why is Rose Foundation hosting the Wild & Scenic Film Festival On Tour?

The films will make us laugh, cry, ask questions, discuss solutions, and take action. We hope you will join us for this fun and empowering evening to benefit Rose Foundation!
